“Who are you?”

“My name is Nina Harrington. I’m a consultant for the police.”

Nina could see his eyes flicker, the quick right-left-right pattern.

“Did you kill Lisa Montgomery?”

“No!” the man sitting shackled in front of her yelled.

She stood up and nodded at the guard to let her out.

“So?” the Sheriff asked.

“He did it.”

“You sure?”

“The Pinocchio effect never lies,” she said and gave the Sheriff a kiss. “See you back home. I have a table waiting. Can you fix dinner today?“

The Sheriff sighed and smiled.

“I should never have married a poker player.”
