If you like your mysteries wrapped in a warm blanket of humor, you’ve come to the right place.
The story:
Charlotte is 26 and lives a quiet and safe life in a 55+ retirement community, surrounded by geriatric neighbors that doubles as her friends.
A corpse “suddenly” appears in Charlotte’s backyard and marks the end of her calm and seduced lifestyle where golf cart racing with her surrogate mothers Mariska and Darla was about as nutty as life got. Within hours the corps club… uh, the crime club is assembled and the community eagerly offers to help solve the mystery.
You will meet killers, crazy ex-girlfriends, loving dogs, romance, treasure hunts, government operatives, FBI agents, and a cast of characters almost as funny as they are loving, supportive, and brave!
Likes/dislikes
The characters are gullible and likable, the mystery mysterious, the setting is the kind of place I want to retire to, and the humor was spot on for me. So much so that people were looking at me with elevated eyebrows when I walked the dog, laughing out loud. I listened to the audiobook brilliantly narrated by Rosemary Benson.
Who’s it for?
If you like mysteries with humor, don’t mind a love story or two, and think sassy people of advanced ages could be fun, this is the book for you!
Who’s it not for?
If you are looking for a traditional mystery with cold-blooded killers I would save my money, this is not it.
Comparable books:
Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman is huge right now, and if you like that you will love this. Personally, I have to say I enjoyed this even more.
Content rating = Cozy
There may be some content such as language, violence, or brief nudity, but they aren’t so intense that they will upset anyone. You can safely listen to this in the car on a family vacation.
